Jamesstreet on Tour! The info below is how we used to to church. Our philosphy and many activities are similar, but the location is not the same. So some things will be different based on where we are during this time of transition and change. But dont worry, we are still the laid back friendly church we were. Check the website for locations and times! Sincerely, Jamesstreet ___________ We welcome you to come and experience God at our Sunday morning worship service. Worship is our response to God, for who He is, and for what He has done! It lasts about an hour and a half. Dress is casual. Church events are "Fragrance Free", so out of respect for people with severe allergies please refrain from wearing strong scents. Services take place upstairs in the main sanctuary (during the summer to beat the heat we meet in the basement auditorium). Our building is wheelchair accessable. Our address in Hamilton is 96 James St South (corner of James and Jackson streets). Nearby parking is available on the street or at city lots within 2 blocks. Pastor Don or another speaker will give a brief message. The Bible will be read. The music is a mix of hymns and songs, and generally includes electric and acoustic guitars, drums and percussion, piano, organ, woodwinds and others. Singing is encouraged. A nursery with full view of the service is available for parents/guardians of infants and toddlers. Children aged two and three are cared for in the nursery by thier parent. Children's Church is a child friendly service for children from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 5 and is run in the basement simultaneously to the worship service. We pass a collection plate or "offering" after the message. Our church membership are encouraged to tithe and give to support our church's missions. We want to be good stewards of God's many blessings. Visitors should simply give as they feel. A communication paper or "pink slip" is available for you to communicate with the church staff. Simply fill it out as needed and place it in the offering plate when it comes by. On the first Sunday of the month we celebrate "Communion" or "The Lords Supper" The table is open to all who profess Jesus Christ as their saviour. If you are not ready yet, stay, but pass on the bread and the juice as it comes around. Communion is at the end of our worship time and lasts approx 30 minutes. Audio recordings of the message are available online at jamesstreet.ca or via iTunes
Some FAQ Where is the best place to park? We have very little on site parking but there are lots of free parking places at City Hall which is only a block away. Many people bus, or walk to church, and some of us including the pastor ride their motorcycles or bike to church. Motorcycles are parked right next to the front door and bikes park inside in the stair well. Are their any young people at this old downtown church? Yes, not as many as we would like but they are here. They are encouraged to be active in worship teams and in ministry to others. Can I drink coffee at Church? Yes you can. Bring your own is really encouraged. There is a Tim's just two blocks away at John and Jackson. Will my children get into trouble if they make noise? No way! We love noise and realize it is a sign of health. If your child wants to bring his DS with them no problem. Will you force me to be in a small group? No if you are looking for a small group we will encourage you and help you start one. But we don't force people into groups. Do you have an evening service? No, our only service is 10:30 Sunday morning at this time. What is your position on Women in Ministry? We believe that women and men are created equal and that all leadership positions are open to anyone regardless of gender. The most important question to us is does the persons gift match the ministry opportunity. Do I have to be a member to take communion? No. But you must be a follower of Jesus, we practice open communion. Do I have to be baptized to be a member or to take communion? No. Baptism is an issue between you and God. If you are not hearing him tell you to be re-baptized then listen to him. If you feel the need to do it again we will help you, especially if you were baptized as an infant. Do I have to fill out a pink slip? No you don't and we will not chase you. Once you want to be known then fill one out, put it in the offering plate and Pastor Don will contact you.
